Step Light
noun
Definition of Step Light
A step light is a small, low-profile light fixture used to illuminate stairs or steps to improve safety and reduce the risk of accidents and falls.
Step lights also improve the lighting of a space while creating a warm, inviting atmosphere.
They can be mounted in any of the following areas:
- On the steps within the tread (horizontal) or the riser (vertical) part of the step
- On the staircase wall beside the steps so that they cast the light beams on the surface of each step
- Under the steps of a floating or open staircase to create a dramatic glow
To create a seamless look, step lights should be installed flush with the surface of the steps or walls. As such, LED recessed lights and flush mounts are good choices for step lights
You should also choose marine-grade lighting fixtures for step lights installed in outdoor spaces. Such fixtures are made from high-quality corrosion-resistant materials, such as stainless steel, and will therefore last longer.
You can also use LED color-changing lights, which can be controlled to create special lighting modes and create your perfect stairway lighting scheme.
